To assess the proposed collateral and financing requirements, we require the information below. You can begin with a brief outline; supporting documents can follow the initial discussion.
Never provide private keys, seed phrases, passwords or recovery codes.
Digital assets are transferred to Electron’s account with an established institutional digital asset custodian.
Electron confirms the asset, network and deposit instructions. Your digital assets are then transferred to the agreed institutional custodian.
The collateral supports the facility for its term. Ownership, wallet control and any collateral-use rights are documented in the agreement.
On full repayment, collateral is released under the agreed return or settlement arrangements.
Never share private keys, recovery phrases or wallet passwords. Verify transfer instructions directly with Electron.
A margin call asks you to restore collateral cover if the three-business-day average digital-asset price falls below the agreed level.
Initial call level: 70% of the closing average digital-asset price
Step 1 of 3
Electron sets out the shortfall and the top-up required.
Step 2 of 3
The period starts when you receive the notice. The required top-up must be completed within it.
Step 3 of 3 · Within the response window
US dollars may be required. Additional digital assets need approval. An unresolved call can lead to loss of collateral.
After a completed top-up, the threshold resets to the three-day average used to calculate the shortfall.
Your digital-asset holding has an agreed closing value of US$1.00 per unit. At a 70% advance rate, you receive US$0.70 per unit in financing. A margin call is triggered if the three-business-day average price falls below US$0.70—a decline of more than 30% from the agreed closing value.

Direct Lending Compared with DeFi
Six practical differences. A direct lending relationship, with terms agreed around your requirements.
Interest rates
The DeFi limitation
Variable borrowing rates can rise as demand increases or liquidity tightens.
The Electron approach
Agree a fixed rate for your facility term, giving you greater certainty over interest costs.
DeFi protocols
Variable borrowing rates can rise when demand increases or liquidity tightens, making your financing more expensive after you have already borrowed.
Electron Family Office
Fixed interest rates can be agreed for your facility term, giving you greater certainty over interest costs and helping you plan with confidence.
Lending relationship
The DeFi limitation
There is no dedicated account manager to discuss your requirements or resolve issues.
The Electron approach
Work directly with us and your dedicated account manager to structure your financing.
DeFi protocols
Borrowing is governed by smart contracts and preset protocol rules, without a dedicated account manager. If you lose access to your wallet or your position is liquidated, support may be unable to restore access, recover your assets or reverse the outcome.
Electron Family Office
As the balance-sheet lender, we work directly with you. Your dedicated account manager understands your requirements, helps structure your financing and provides a clear point of contact when questions or issues arise.
Collateral top-ups
The DeFi limitation
Crossing the protocol’s threshold can trigger liquidation without a guaranteed cure period.
The Electron approach
You have five business days from receipt of written notice to restore the required collateral level.
DeFi protocols
Your position can become eligible for liquidation as soon as the protocol’s threshold is breached, without a guaranteed notice or cure period. A sharp market move can leave you little time to act.
Electron Family Office
You have five business days from receipt of written notice to restore the required collateral level, giving you a defined period to arrange the necessary top-up.
Collateral eligibility
The DeFi limitation
Unsupported holdings cannot be used in that lending market, regardless of their value.
The Electron approach
We assess eligible digital assets individually, including larger or concentrated holdings.
DeFi protocols
Your holdings must fit a supported lending market with available liquidity. Unsupported assets cannot be used there, regardless of their value, and wrapping, bridging or conversion may be needed, adding further steps and risks.
Electron Family Office
We assess your digital assets on their individual merits, including larger or concentrated holdings. Eligible native assets can be considered without wrapping, bridging or conversion solely to meet protocol collateral requirements.
Custody and collateral controls
The DeFi limitation
A coding error or hack can result in collateral being stolen or lost, with recovery difficult or impossible.
The Electron approach
Institutional custody arrangements and collateral controls are set out in agreed documentation.
DeFi protocols
Your collateral is held in smart contracts. A coding error or hack could result in your assets being stolen or lost. You have limited scope to negotiate additional safeguards, and recovering lost assets may be difficult or impossible.
Electron Family Office
Institutional custody arrangements and collateral controls are established under agreed documentation, giving you a clear contractual framework for how your assets are held and managed.
Facility structure and recourse
The DeFi limitation
You accept the market’s preset terms; automated liquidation can happen overnight.
The Electron approach
Terms are assessed individually. Non-recourse options may be considered for eligible facilities, subject to agreed terms and exceptions.
DeFi protocols
You must accept the market’s existing loan terms, collateral requirements and repayment conditions, with no scope for individual negotiation. Recourse and liquidation follow the protocol’s terms. A sharp market move can trigger automated liquidation, including overnight, before you have time to respond.
Electron Family Office
We structure your facility around the collateral and transaction, with terms assessed individually. Non-recourse options can be considered for eligible facilities, limiting recovery to the digital-asset collateral, subject to agreed terms and exceptions.
Indicative comparison. DeFi protocol features vary, and Electron financing terms are subject to collateral eligibility, underwriting and agreed documentation.
Once we receive your completed application form and recent custody or exchange statements, or suitable evidence of self-custody holdings, we can open your file for review.
We assess the proposed digital assets, network, liquidity, concentration, transfer conditions and custody suitability.
Indicative terms are provided within 24–48 hours, subject to receipt of the required information.
Once indicative terms are accepted, we complete identity and ownership checks and agree the facility documents before the collateral is transferred. The documents identify Electron or the wholly owned subsidiary providing the facility.
The agreed digital assets are transferred to the institutional custodian using verified asset, network and deposit instructions.
A three-business-day average establishes the collateral value in accordance with the agreed pricing method.
A closing statement sets out the collateral valuation and net proceeds for your acceptance before funding.
Funds are released after acceptance of the closing statement and completion of the agreed closing requirements.
We confirm the proposed funding currency and closing arrangements with you before the collateral transfer.
We assess the combined collateral value, trading liquidity and concentration across the proposed holdings, together with the networks and custody arrangements.
Selected staked holdings can be reviewed. We assess transfer restrictions and the time needed to unlock the assets before agreeing custody arrangements.
US-dollar or agreed stablecoin funding can be discussed. Other currencies and payment arrangements are confirmed case by case.
Non-recourse options can be considered for eligible cases, without personal or corporate repayment guarantees.
You may lose the digital assets provided if repayment or collateral requirements are not met. The facility documents set the scope, exceptions, ownership and collateral-use rights.
